imagesHappy birthday, Mr. Doughnut.

Let’s set the record straight. The origin of the doughnut is not clearly known.  However, June 22, 1847 is generally accepted as the creation of the doughnut as we know it (well, without six pounds of sugar and those annoying sprinkles).  Elizabeth Gregory made the dough cakes, and her son, a ship’s captain, claimed to have put the hole in the middle of it.

It was during this period that Sunday Schools began to grow and rise in popularity.

Makes sense to me. Prior to June 22, 1847, how could you ever start a Bible study without a box of doughnuts?
